If you've seen a strange commercial of people looking into the camera, followed by the words "Want to Peer Into A Soul?", it was probably
this.
What does it mean? Turns out, it's a cliffhanger type commercial for an automobile, which you can find
here.
Update 1/28/09: This is an even
better link to visit. As all the commenters have said, it's a very creepy commercial...all for a KIA automobile. Also added poll.

A brilliant, tense, and somewhat heeby jeeby-inducing television commercial.
I saw the one with the old street-person-looking dude, and it kind of unnerved me. I thought that I, the viewer, was peering into this man's soul, not the other way around, and it was to say the least, a very discomforting feeling.
Personally, I still haven't seen it on TV yet.
I saw the commercial several times and it creeped me out. I finally decided to go to the website and it also creeped me out. I left it before anything happened. POOR ADVERTISING IF YOU ASK ME!!! Now that I know what it is for I would NEVER consider buying a KIA!
I thought the commercial was a poor medium for advertising a car.
A car? Really? I thought it might be a viral marketing campaign for a new movie along the lines of the Saw franchise, particularly after seeing the one with the terrifying man in the red coat. *shudder*
i saw it it was so creepy it scared my little baby cuzon so much she started to cry it creeped me out to
And I still haven't seen it. Now I'm really intrigued!
Did a sociopath by any chance make this commercial? It is way too creepy. I felt like the guy in the mask was a psycho looking into the window of a house. I didn't know what to make of this commercial.
What a creepy stupid commercial. If I can avoid buying Kia, I would after this. Why invade my TV space with junk like this? Why not something that feels a little more positive? On top of that comparing a hunk of metal to your soul is pretty sad as well.
i agree with everyone....its creepy...
It's for Kia: http://www.kia.ca/
Brilliant marketing campaign. People in the comments here are obviously missing the point: the commercial did what it was supposed too, it made you visit their website.
Who did this campaign? I want to work for this company!
Brilliant campagain in that it does make people wonder what this is about, since its only flashes on the screen. It is disturbing that a company though uses this form of advertising for a car, when there are so many issues happening at this moment - war, abuse, murder, homelessness (which many of us thought this was about) and other social issues. Even at the end, I honestly had to sit for a moment to realize it was a car commercial. I don't like Kia and that totally turned me off ever considering buying one. What does a creepy man peering into a screen have to do with a car?
I didn't explain well - the commercials appear to be about homelessness, substance abuse and poverty. Many in my area involved with social issues have tuned in believing this is part of a renewed campagain regarding homelessness. That is the way the commerical appears. It was disturbing and disappointing to realize it was done to sell a car.
Reminds me of that "Beware the heat" campaign for 7up. That one was cool. The website was just a timer counting down. I thought the Apocalypse was near or something. This sort of guerilla advertising is pretty cool, but I cant help but feel cheated when I find out what it's really selling. Google "Beware the heat" and find a youtube video.
didn't woik on me
figured i'd read aboot it somewhere
and sure enough
Interesting, a commercial aboot souls from Killed In Action automobiles
creepy
To all the people whom admire this kind of advertising and want to work for these companies.
Number one: you should wait and finish your first year of advertising school before you comment.
Second: Here is what I mean, the purpose of advertising is not to drive audiences to the web, the purpose of advertising is to sell a product. (dont panic I mean the big picture) Grabbing someone's attention is not advertising, if I walk up to you and kick you in the balls I have your attention but not your money. Don't waist and clutter people minds with bull. Give the people what they need. the consumer is not stupid.
When I first saw this advertisement on the television (who says television any more? and what the ****... advertisement?) anyways, I was led to believe that the Earth was coming to an end and that these people were the last of our pathetic race... oh how I trembled in awe of such a thought, but alas... my fantasy- er, nightmare didn't come true. *cough* I was so disturbed that I needed to know if this was some kind of joke or a vague homelessness ad, like 'habitat for humanity' kind of deal. Nope, my journey from the couch to the computer-machine-thinger was in vain and I should have went on for the rest of my life asking... "what the **** is peerintoasoul.com?" This commercial proves that people will do anything to seek truth, even if the truth is it's just a ****ing car! What the bleeding horse-****er. I mean c'mon... I miss the beef lady.
I thought it was going to be a commercial for a suicide hotline or something about depression. Car commercial? I did not see that one coming....

Perhaps they have gone for the purpose of some viral marketing. In which they have succeeded. Yes all marketing is to sell your service or product, or to gain funds. But the methods are not all the same. Seems someone in a Marketing 1 class knows more then you do. Maybe you should go back to the basics before you make a comment about finishing their first year.
I would go back to marketing 1 class, but the idea of sharing a classroom with you makes me want to get in a kia and crash it into a billboard at 120 k/h.
Congratulations to Kia Motors. According to world renowned Anonymous blogger at blogger.com, after two weeks of running your vague and confusing campaign, she has declared it a success. According to her "Perhaps they have gone for the purpose of some viral marketing. In which they have succeeded".
Bravo.......
If you like to criticizes please explain " the different ways" and how those different ways convert to cash, cold hard cash. "gain funds" haha you sound like a T.A. I dont care about ways, my question is will this campaign be as successful as the VW campaign, will this commercial make this kia the best selling car of the year. Or will it just attract people to the website by "viral Marketing" whatever that is. Always look at the big picture. How does this contribute to the kia brand. explain that please. thanks in advance.
To the person questioning his/her use of the word 'television'. It's ok, only 10% of the population of the world (US and Canada) call it a TV, the rest call it television.
Great post! Keep it up the good work and also keep posting.
Well, I'd say that it would be a rare commercial actually I would have to watch a video because I can't figure out how it is..
